Sunscreens
Sunscreen is a cosmetic product that reduces skin cancers, prevents sunburn, and reduces premature aging. No matter the weather, skin type, or other excuses, you’d better use it to keep your skin looking healthy and attractive for a long time. There are three types of sunscreens available in the market: physical, chemical, and hybrid. Each of them uses a different mechanism that blocks or absorbs UV rays.
Physical (mineral) sunscreens are the most studied for clinical safety and effectiveness. They contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which act as a barrier between the sun and your skin. Chemical sunscreens use up to a dozen synthetic ingredients like oxybenzone, avobenzone, homosalate, etc. They absorb UV rays and convert them into energy. Hybrid sunscreens combine mineral and chemical filters in their formula to minimize both weaknesses and maximize their potential.
Sun care products can also be differentiated by SPF numbers, PA+, and capabilities to provide broad-spectrum protection. This information is located on the label and always seems confusing to the average customer. For example, higher SPF means something other than better protection. I’m not kidding. It is a fact. But don’t worry. My Skin Tips can help you understand these meanings and make you able to find the best sunscreen.
